Stony Brook Valley is the watershed of Boston's Stony Brook, the longest
tributary of the Charles River entirely within the city of Boston. It starts in
Stony Brook Reservation, a state park run by the
Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)
in Hyde Park and West Roxbury, which contains 475 acres of scenic
landscapes and a variety of recreational facilities.
Here is a map of the park.
At the edge of the park, next to Enneking Parkway in Hyde Park, the stream
goes into an underground conduit and doesn't surface again until it reaches
the Back Bay Fens. The valley it created is still very visible, especially
from high points such as the granite cliffs of Crane Ledge
and
Beechmont Path.
We're working together with the City of Boston and the DCR to build
awareness of Stony Brook and the valley surrounding it and to preserve
open space which gives a sense of the valley.
