Last Day of Winter Ride on
the Neponset Trail[photos] Saturday, March 19, 2011, 10:00 am at Paul's Bridge in Milton
We'll start at the northern end of the Blue Hills Reservation, at the
parking lot next to Paul's Bridge on Brush Hill Rd. just south of its
intersection with the Neponset Valley Parkway. First, we'll notice the
there is no off-road route to the start of the Neponset Trail at the end
of Truman Parkway. Then we'll ride on the new section of the Neponset
Trail which opened last summer, downstream to Mattapan Square, where we'll
take streets for the missing mile to the old southern terminus of the
trail at Central Ave. We'll follow the trail past the Baker Chocolate
Factory buildings in Dorchester Lower Mills, along the Neponset Marshes,
through Pope John Paul II Park, and on streets through Port Norfolk to
the current northern end of the trail at Tenean Beach. We'll continue
on streets paralleling the future route of what is now being called the
Dorechester Coast Trail, which will eventually connect to the existing
trail around Columbia Point past U.Mass./Boston and the Kennedy Library.
We'll continue around the South Boston beaches to Castle Island for
a rest stop, then return more or less along the same route back to
Readville and Milton.
